Plane taking off over small runway

We first left the familiar shores of the UK to move overseas with Mission Aviation Fellowship in 2017. It was the culmination of a long dream, and many years of waiting for the right moment, but we were happy to begin this great adventure into mission life.

Our first assignment was in Uganda, where Dave took on the post of Avionics Engineer, and later Regional Avionics Manager for Africa. Becky was involved in Bible teaching, preaching in local churches, helping with discipleship for a group of young people in one of Kampala’s slum communities, and also leading multiple Bible study groups.

In 2021, we left Uganda, spent three months in the UK raising support and recharging our batteries, and then moved to the opposite side of Africa. We landed in Liberia in November, and Dave settled into life in a very different work environment. With a far smaller team, albeit one rapidly growing, and different challenges, Dave added Maintenance Controller for West Africa to his growing list of responsibilities, as well as temporarily managing the maintenance facility for Liberia itself. Becky started leading another Bible study group, for women here in Liberia on the mission field, and has used her time producing resources to aid people seeking to dive deeper into the word of God. This has included weekly encouragements from the Bible, posted on our YouTube channel, and also her first Bible study book, No Mountain Immovable: How to Activate Your Faith, which is avaiable for purchase on Amazon.

Support Us

We would not be able to serve with MAF in Africa without such an amazing team of people behind us in the UK, and in other parts of the world. Part of our role as missionaries with MAF is putting this team together, and we are always looking for more people to partner with us. We’re committed to keeping our supporters updated with all we’re doing, so that you can well and truly feel part of this adventure, because let’s face it, you’re as much a part of it as us!

Read on to find out how you can help us in Liberia!

Moving to Africa to be missionaries is the biggest and, quite possibly, the craziest thing we’ve ever done, so we need as much prayer support as possible! If you’re a praying person, we’d really appreciate some prayers for the following things.

Please pray:

  • For health and safety living in Liberia.
  • For our spiritual wellbeing, as we live in an environment very different to where we grew up.
  • For opportunities to serve and support our local church.
  • For a strong marriage.
  • For good relationships with MAF staff and local friends.
  • For Dave in his role with MAF, and for Becky in her preaching and teaching ministry.
  • For the West Africa region, and the role MAF plays within it.

Keep an eye on our updates page for all the latest information about this adventure and other things to pray about.

Encourage

We love to hear from you! It’s always so encouraging to us to receive your messages and hear you cheering us on. There are always days where things feel challenging, and knowing you’re with us on the adventure makes it all that bit easier.

Unfortunately we’re not able to receive post in Liberia, but you can email us any encouraging words, or simply get in touch and let us know how you’re doing.

This isn’t an adventure we can do on our own, but with a bit of added motivation from our wonderful support team we can get through anything!

Give

MAF is a support raised mission, which means we need to cover the cost of living overseas. That includes everything from housing, to flights back and forth, to medical insurance, to our own monthly salary. It’s a significant amount of money, and it’s only donations from churches and individuals which allows us to continue doing our work in West Africa.

If you are able to help in any way with either a regular or a one off donation, no matter how big or small, it would be hugely appreciated.

Not in the UK? Don’t worry! We can work with your local MAF office to set up giving for us, either regularly or as a one off. We already have a page set up for our awesome supporters from the good ol’ US of A which you can access using the button below.

Contact us if you’re from another country and are interested in partnering with us as we work with MAF in Liberia.

About MAF

MAF UK Logo

MAF is a Christian charity, operating light aircraft in order to reach some of the most remote people groups in the world to see them physically and spiritually transformed. They fly in medical aid, doctors, teachers, aid workers, Christian teachers, pastors and evangelists, and even UN and government staff. Their remit is to reach the places that would take hours, or even days, to reach in other ways.

The work of MAF was actually started in 1945, just after the second world war, when a group of pilots decided they wanted to use the skills they had developed for good rather than destruction. After a long period of surveying Africa and raising funds, those early MAF pioneers were able to buy one aircraft to start operating in the Sudan. Today there are close to 150 aircraft, operating in 26 countries all around the globe, working with more than 1,500 partner organisations to bring help and healing, both physically and spiritually, in many developing nations. The plane is a real tool to reach people who otherwise simply could not be reached with the gospel message.
