Here we are, safe and sound in our beautiful house in Kampala, surrounded by unusual birds, insects, and even the odd monkey! It is going to take a while to get used to the unusual sounds, sights and smells of this vibrant city. Already our tiled floor has a tinge of the red dust that swiftly coats everything here, even after mopping it only yesterday. We’re told it won’t take us long to stop noticing it. I enjoy the brief moment after a shower, when my feet are scrubbed back to their normal colour for a small window of time.

This is our sixth day in country, and already we’ve managed to organise how to withdraw our money, set up internet, bought a washing machine and some essentials, and today bought a car to transport us around the interesting roads we will encounter. There is much to learn; names, places, directions and greetings in the local dialect, to name a few. Though it seems overwhelming at the moment, we keep reminding ourselves to take it one day at a time, and having such an amazing team of people we are working with and walking with on this journey is an incredible support.

Thank you for your prayers, encouragement and your giving – without you we wouldn’t be here, and we appreciate you more than you can know. We’ll try and keep this blog up to date with our latest exploits, and keep your eyes peeled for a pre-Christmas newsletter, but do bear with us as we get to grips with all that this beautiful country has in store for us.
