Fond Farewells

It is an absolute privilege to be part of a wonderful church here in Totton, in the UK. It is an honour to have such amazing, caring and loving friends and family. But it makes it all the more difficult to say goodbye.

Yesterday was the day of our sending and commissioning service at our home church, Testwood Baptist Church. Alongside worship and an inspiring and challenging word, we were sent out from this place where we’ve grown, loved, laughed, and had an incredible few years. Close friends, mentors, mentees and more prayed for us, and launched us into this new missionary life in Uganda.

Following the service, we were able to spend a last couple of hours with our church family over a tasty lunch, and then came the tearful farewells. But with them a sense of excitement, that though a goodbye might be painful for a while, there is a lot of good to come from this new adventure. And though it might be me and Dave physically getting on a plane, we’re bringing everyone with us.

Feeding AlpacasAfter lunch came a last evening with our families, complete with pasta, laughter and the feeding of alpacas! We are incredibly blessed to have such supportive parents and siblings, and we are thankful that Skype and other technology has made the world a smaller place.

All in all, it was a long, tiring and, at times, difficult day. But it was one that left us secure in the knowledge that this new journey will be covered in prayer by those treasured friends we leave behind.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for whatever part you have played in our journey to date. We look forward to your input in the future, and we pray that God will bless you in ways you can’t even imagine!

    Hi there Becky and Dave

Just to say sorry that we were not there on Sunday. We wish you all the best on your new journey. I cannot quite remember what day you are leaving the UK but it might even be tomorrow. May God really bless you and keep you safe. You will be missed by so many but like you mention technology is great for keeping in touch. lots of love to you both. Geoff, Gillie, Eve and Ruth.

P.S. I liked this prayer so thought you might appreciate it for your new home. We will be saying it with you…
    Short home blessing prayer

Spirit of God we welcome you into this place.
Come inhabit every room with your wonderful presence.
May all who enter this dwelling sense your everlasting peace and abundant joy,
And may all who live here know and experience the fullness of your eternal love.
We ask all this in the glorious name of Jesus, our saviour and protector.

    Amen.
